VIMEO to Launch Universal Player That Allows Mobile Support

Posted by Alex Smith

VIMEO has announced today that they’ll soon be launching a universal player that will add mobile support. VIMEO will use HTML 5 to automatically detect your specific device and will display their video at optimal settings accordingly. People are using their devices more and more to browse the web each day and it is clear that YouTube runs the online video world, but VIMEO isn’t showing any sign of quitting.

Watch Later is a one button solution that lets people save videos for later viewing. Vimeo built the Watch Later button into every version of the Vimeo player. Now, people can access their Watch Later videos by going to the Watch Later album on Vimeo.com, the Vimeo channel on their Roku box or the Vimeo mobile site. It’s an easy way to queue up a high-quality playlist to enjoy when people have more time. The Watch Later feature will also be added to Vimeo’s API.

NEW YORK, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ — Online video sharing site Vimeo®, an operating business of IAC (Nasdaq: IACI), will release later today a Universal Player that allows people to watch embedded Vimeo videos on mobile devices such as iPhone or iPad using HTML5. Universal Player:

Pile added, “The new embeddable code is highly scalable and allows us to continue to add support as new browsers and devices are released, for example serving HTML5 to IE9 and our Flash mobile player to Android phones running Flash 10.1.”

Samsung’s Latest Plug for Their Galaxy S

Posted by Alex Smith

Starting tonight, Samsung is beginning to take their advertising to the next level. Tonight Samsung will be running this TV spot all across America. I said before to watch out because Samsung is slowly going to take over and guess what, it’s happening. They have come over the Android community like a black cloud, raining crisp Super AMOLED displays and Hummingbird processors. A lot of users have taken to the Samsung Galaxy S devices and Verizon and Sprint have yet to release theirs. Check out the video.

Do you think they went with a fight scene symbolizing that they are on the offensive to take over? Judging that this device as already sold into the millions worldwide and that they are determined to reach their goal of launching this device in over 110 countries, I say that would be a safe bet.

*UPDATE*

Along with Samsung’s TV Spot, they have started referencing Apple’s “antennagate” issue in their paper ads. Enjoy!

Another Day, Another Promo Video for Samsung Galaxy S

Posted by Jolie Gendel

Proving one again that a rose phone by another other name is just as sweet, Verizon has launched a promo video for their upcoming Samsung Fascinate. Does it look familiar to you? It should, it’s pretty much the exact same video that was launched by AT&T. Just in case you’re getting your names mixed up, here’s a refresher:

  • AT&T – Captivate
  • Verizon – Fascinate
  • T-Mobile – Vibrant
  • Sprint – Epic

Honestly, is sticking with one name such a bad thing?

YouTube Enhancing Mobile Site

Posted by Jolie Gendel

In only three short years, YouTube’s mobile site has grown to more than 100 million video playbacks a day. That’s a huge number, and YouTube is making improvements so your video viewing habits are more enjoyable.

In addition to making the mobile site faster, YouTube is also adding in other features like touch-friendly elements for easier playback, search options, playlists, and sharing. YouTube also makes it clear they’re working toward a seamless experience from computers to mobile devices:

As we make improvements to Youtube.com, you’ll see them quickly follow on our mobile site, unlike native apps which are not updated as frequently.

Does this mean the YouTube app is going away? I don’t think so. The YouTube app isn’t going anywhere, but YouTube is making it clear the mobile site is the place to go for the best experience no matter what phone you may have. The enhanced mobile site is launching as English-only, but additional languages will become available in the coming months. If you want to see a demo of the new interface, watch the video below.

First Promo Video of the Motorola Charm

Posted by Alex Smith

The device is obviously lower end and with it aimed at the younger school crowd, who knows how far the Motorola Charm will actually fly. The concept has the features that could very well take off in the future as this fully exposed QWERTY keyboard will compete with the Blackberry devices that we find everywhere. As the Charm introduces the Backtrack Navigation tool, could we see this on future devices? Either way, the device is still pretty interesting to look at.

The Sprint Samsung Epic 4G Promo

Posted by Alex Smith

It was less than a month ago that Sprint launched the HTC Evo 4G, the first 4G device of its kind, and they’re hitting the game hard again by showing off their latest 4G monster the Samsung Epic 4G (Galaxy S). With a full QWERTY slide out keyboard, 1GHz processor and Super AMOLED display, what’s not to love? Is it just me, or is Sprint making strategic decisions here? I think so, and judging by the following device Sprint has developed since the Evo, it’s going to be hard to slow them down. Here is the latest promo video of Sprint’s Epic 4G.

The Epic 4G is going to be another huge device in the Sprint and Android family.
