Samsung’s Hummingbird Processor Show’s What It Can Do

The Samsung Galaxy S is equipped with the Hummingbird processor which has a GPU that is said to produce 3 times faster performance than it’s competitor on the market today. The video below is proof. The HTC Desire is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. These two devices go head to head showing off a Quake 2 running test. You be the judge.
That Hummingbird processor moves through the game without any delay while the Snapdragon processor in the HTC Desire spends the whole game trying to keep up. Obviously, we can see the Galaxy S take the cake on this one. Still not enough? Below is the Galaxy S playing Kwaak 3 (The ported name of Quake 3).
I must say this processor and GPU is a monster!

You can go ahead and add two new members to the Snapdragon family as they have started to ship to Android devices. The processors MSM8260 and MSM8660 are both dual-core and have been clocked at 1.2GHz. With an integrated GPS and GPU that supports Open VG 1.1 as well as Open GL ES 2.0, 2D, and 3D acceleration support displays up to 1280×800 pixels and are capable of encoding and decoding 1080p. MSM8260 supports HSPA+ and MSM8660 supports multi-mode HSPA+ and 1xEV-DO Rev. B. Although it is unlikely to see Android devices with these chips before the end of the year, Qualcomm has stated that more multi-core processors are in the works to equip tablets and other high-end devices this year.

AT&T’s Samsung I897 Spotted In The Wild

The Samsung i897 looks to be At&t’s first serious attempt at releasing an Android device. With its 4-inch AMOLED screen, Android 2.1, and 5-megapixel camera it appears identical to that of the Samsung Galaxy S. With a possible 1 GHZ Snapdragon processor, as well as other features similar to the Galaxy S, the form features differ slightly. It appears that this device will launch with full Google experience. I guess we will have to wait a little longer on this one to get the full story. Stay Tuned!

Spotted At The FCC, The LG “Aloha” Heads For At&t?
Recently, on the FCC’s site, a new LG device with the model number LG-C710h appears to be headed for At&t. The LG “Aloha” supprts the same frequencies used for At&t’s 3G network. LG is storming the Android community expanding their Android lineup across all of the major U.S. carriers.

As At&t currently offers six LG devices through their online store, we have learned that these companies have a strong working relationship. Currently the only Android device At&t is currently rockin’ is the Motorola “Backflip,” but given the rumored launches planned by At&t this could significantly enhance the amount of Android handsets on At&t. From the Samsung Galaxy S, Dell Streak 5, and the exclusive HTC Phone coming later this year, At&t customers should have no problem with choosing their first or next Android device.
Rumored specs for the LG “Aloha” include:
- Android 2.1
- 1 GHz Snapdragon processor
- 3.5-inch AMOLED 800×480 touch display
- Sliding 4-row QWERTY keyboard
- 5 megapixel camera
- 720p HD DivX compatible playback
