Acer and Motorola Have Eyes on Gingerbread for Tablet

Posted by Alex Smith

Android tablets worth buying haven’t hit the market yet, so we are forced to wait on top manufacturers to bring us something that’s worth a damn. The latest development going down now is that Acer and Motorola are working on bringing a little more to the table. Gingerbread anyone? According to Digitimes, Acer has decided to wait another quarter until they can throw Android 3.0 in their device instead of shipping them early with Froyo. Acer’s original plan was to launch their ARM/Android-based tablet in Q4 of 2010 but since Google is expected to introduce Android 3.0 in Q4, they are willing to hold off until Q1 2011.

We all know that according to Verizon’s leaked roadmap, Motorola is clearly working on a tablet, but are they willing to wait the same length of time? According to Digitimes Research senior analyst Mingchi Kuo, Motorola’s tablet will feature the Tegra 2 platform from Nvidia and a 10.1-inch panel supplied by Sharp and will be available for mass production by the end of 2010. Sounds good right? One thing to keep in mind here is, just because Motorola could possibly be holding out for a later release doesn’t mean that they’re only working on just one tablet. The leaked Verizon roadmap suggested that a Motorola MZ600 (Stingray) tablet could be gearing up for a November launch, who’s to say that this is the same tablet?

Would you want an upgradeable tablet soon or wait for Android 3.0 to ship on the device?

Posted by android spin

Today Rogers confirmed they will be carrying the Acer latest Android handset, Acer Liquid E. One thing I seriously hate is that when a carrier announces a phone and doesn’t give a release date.  But it’s okay, you don’t need to be worried because it’s our duty to keep you updated about the release date. The Acer Liquid E is a mid-range phone with:

  • 3.5 inch touchscreen
  • 768MHz Snapdragon processor
  • 5MP camera
  • 7.2 Mbps 3G and WiFi
  • Standard Android 2.1

Recently, Rogers announced a built in feature for their phone called Social View. The feature is for phone to sync social networking data to the device’s standard contact book for easy access. The Acer Liquid E will come with this built in feature.

If you are thinking what the picture is about, then let me tell you that the picture shows Roger’s set-up instructions for Facebook.
