Samsung Galaxy Tab Gains Root Access

Posted by Alex Smith

You read the title correctly folks! The Galaxy Tab, which was just unveiled to the world yesterday, has been rooted. In the image above you can see the Superuser prompt, which is a pretty clear sign. We’ll probably hear about the Galaxy Tab being rooted again as Tim over at Sera-apps says this is just a prototype of the Android tablet. It’s still nice to see though, right?

Dyzplastic Shipping to Wholesalers Soon

Posted by Jolie Gendel

If you haven’t heard of Dyzplastic, then get yourself familiarized. Dyzplastic is the manufacturer and distributor for those cute Android figures everyone is dying to get their hands on.  They’ve recently replenished their supply and will soon be shipping out to wholesale customers.

What does this mean for the general public? It means that if you happen to live near one of retail locations, you can have instant Android gratification instead of paying shipping and waiting for delivery like the rest of us.  As of right now, here are the current retailers for Dyzplastic:

Not all locations may carry Android figures, so call before you go. If you want to buy Android figures online, you can find all the options at the Dead Zebra shop. It looks like they are still rationing their supply due to high demand, so bookmark the site and check back often.

Google Responds to Jobs’ Device Activations Comment

Posted by Alex Smith

Last month, Eric Schmidt announced that 200,000 Android devices were being activated everyday and Mr. Jobs here took an obvious jab at Google’s numbers. During the event, Jobs announced that:

We think some of our friends are counting upgrades in their numbers

Google quickly responded by saying:

The Android activation numbers do not include upgrades and are, in fact, only a portion of the Android devices in the market since we only include devices that have Google services.

We all know that Jobs likes to run his mouth, but we figured he would have learned his lesson after the whole “antennagate” debacle where he reported Android devices suffered the same issue when you held the device a certain way.

He continued to take a few more jabs at Google when he was talking about Apple TV stating that people wanted Hollywood blockbusters and high-end television shows and not “amateur hour.” Whatever jabs he feels necessary to help him sleep at night, but it’s clear inside he’s feeling very threatened by Google and the Android OS.

Samsung Galaxy Tab vs. Apple iPad

Posted by Alex Smith

With the Galaxy Tab unveiling today, many of you are curious to know how the Galaxy Tab matches up to the “magical” Apple iPad. Thanks to Wirefly, they have everything lined up in the image above in a quick cross-referencing format. The iPad is larger than the Galaxy S, but the 7″ Galaxy Tab offers a much more realistic experience in mobility. You can learn more about how these devices match up in a nice little write up from our friends at Wirefly.

Below we have a video courtesy of TheDroidGuy, who shows us a little more of the Galaxy Tab and does a brief physical comparison the the 10″ Apple iPad. Enjoy!

Google Being Sued Over Issues with Nexus One

Nexus One

It’s a beautiful rainy day here in Chicago and another rainy day for Google. Google is being taken to court in a class action lawsuit involving owners of the Nexus One, who are claiming that they were lured into buying the device based on features such as 3G which they were unable to maintain. Nathan Nabors of Florida is the front man in this charge being brought against Google, and he feels like they didn’t provide sufficient support during the time they were selling the device.  The lawsuit stretches from Florida to California, covering anyone who purchased an N1 through Google, and at this time HTC (the manufacturer), and T-Mobile (the network), are not listed as being involved in the case. Google has been reached by TechCrunch, who first relayed the story, but at this time no further information is available. We will keep you up to date as details unfold.

Huawei Unveils Android Devices That Are Easy on the Wallet

Posted by Alex Smith

With all of the tablets set to be unveiled at the IFA event in Berlin, Huawei managed to successfully slip in four new devices without any leaked images before hand. These entry-level devices are designed to be easy on the wallet but still bring the latest firmware that most devices today are currently shipping with.

Huawei Ideos

  • This device will be running Android 2.2 and is said to “redefine” entry-level devices as it implements high-quality hardware and software with a high price-to-performance ratio. Depending on the market, the Ideos will be priced at $100 and $200. As you can see in the image above, this device will come in various colors.

Huawei U8800

  • This will bring Android 2.2 along with HSPA+ capabilities with maximum speeds of 14Mbps. This device is also to feature a 3.8″ widescreen display and will include hotspot capabilities.

Huawei U8500

  • This device will be launched with Android 2.1 and comes in a smaller form factor with a 3.2″ display.

Huawei U8300

  • This device will also feature Android 2.1 and is aimed at the younger crowd, even children.

Pricing and availability have not yet been announced, but we could be seeing these devices hit Europe, Asia and possible the U.S.
